40 Days of Service Day 16

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve you today?

Scripture: Colossians 3:22-24

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”

Have you ever tried to do something, but your heart was not in it? Your body is there, but your heart is somewhere else. To do something halfheartedly means without enthusiasm or energy. I think people notice when a person does a job halfheartedly. Are you enthusiastic about going to church? Are you enthusiastic about reading your bible? Are you excited about witnessing to other people about Jesus? When you do Christian ministry, is your body there but your heart somewhere else? I think God notices when we serve Him halfheartedly.

Paul is telling  slaves to serve their earthly masters with sincerity of heart, not just when they are watching, but even when nobody sees. This ought to be the same way that we serve the Lord. Serve the Lord with passion and sincerity of heart.
