40 Days of Service Day 2

March 2, 2017

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve you today?

Scripture: Joshua 24:14-15

Joshua gathers all the children of Israel to Shechem. There he gives them a sermon like none they had ever heard. God was speaking through Joshua that day to the whole assembly. For forty years God led all the children of Israel through the wilderness. God provided food and water. God protected them from their enemies. God put His presence in their midst with Moses as His representative.  The children of Israel were blessed as a group and they were punished as a group.

Sometimes it is easy to disappear into the large crowds. We can disappear under the umbrella of a Nation. We can disappear under the umbrella of a generation. We can disappear under the umbrella of a denomination. We tie ourselves to these groups and we feel like our personal responsibilities are eliminated. But Joshua says, “Choose for yourselves this day…” Now that the children of God have arrived in the promised land, they must settle down and build up their own families. The God who provided, protected and walked with the group wants to have a personal relationship with you. So, choose for yourself. If serving God does not seem desirable to you, then you don’t have to serve Him. Serving God is a choice, and it is a choice you must make every day.
