40 Days of Service Day 25

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve others today?

Scripture: Mark 10:35-45

Have you ever been to a concert? The seats that I usually get to sit in are in the nosebleed section. These are referred to as the cheap seats. The closer you get to the band, the more expensive the tickets are. The best seats are called the VIP seats. These tickets are very expensive, but come with some amazing perks. You get to sit so close to the band that you can see their facial expressions. Plus, you receive a backstage pass to meet the band in person. James and John have an interesting request of Jesus. They want to sit on the right and on the left side of Jesus in His glory. James and John want the VIP seats. The rest of the disciples are mad, because they want the VIP seats also. I think that every Christian would want to be as close to Jesus as they possibly could.

Battle for position and prestige is at the heart of how our world works. Jesus says, “Not so with you…” Christians are supposed to be different and set apart. Jesus, who is the one who deserves the most honor and prestige says, “The Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus the rock star is trying to make His way to the nosebleed section, to be a servant.
