40 Days of Service Day 31

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve others today?

Scripture: Galatians 6:7-10

It seems like this is becoming more regular, but I saw a picture posted the other day of a receipt where the customer did not leave a tip. The bill was over $187 and the waitress was obviously angry, because she did not feel that she received an adequate compensation for her service. Paul uses the illustration of farming to describe the compensation of a servant. Acts of service are seeds that we are planting in the lives of others. The more seeds you plant the greater compensation you will receive, “A man reaps what he sows.” We plant seeds by praying for unsaved relatives and friends. We plant seeds by feeding the hungry and clothing the naked. We plant seeds by helping other people carry their burdens. Then we go out to the fields and we check for fruit or any signs of growth. Much like the waitress we see a zero, where a tip should be.

I don’t know if we become angry like the waitress, but I do believe we become discouraged. We might even become weary and debate whether we should continue to plant seeds. Should we continue to pray for the unsaved? Should we continue to feed the hungry in our neighborhood? Should we continue to carry each other’s burdens? Don’t give up. Your tip is coming.
