40 Days of Service Day 34

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve others today?

Scripture: Mark 11:1-11

Jesus sent two of his disciples to get a colt for Him. Jesus said, “If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ tell them, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’” The Lord needs it? Usually when we say that we need something, what we really mean is that we want something. But this was a very special colt. This colt had never been ridden before. That is the only kind of colt that is worthy for our Lord. But this colt was a fulfillment of scripture. Zechariah 9:9, “See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”

It was just as Jesus told His disciples. The colt was exactly where he told them it would be. And just like he said, somebody was there to question them about their intentions. Luke tells us that it was the colt’s owners that questioned these two disciples. They answered, “The Lord needs it…” That was all they had to say and the people let them go. Would you give to the Lord something that you owned but had never used before? What does the Lord need from you?
