40 Days of Service Day 40

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve others today?

Scripture: Romans 7:4-6

Can you imagine how the disciples must have felt the day after Jesus died? It was a Sabbath day, so by law they were restricted. They were required to observe a day of rest. What does the death of Jesus mean to you? Paul tells us in Romans, that the death of Jesus Christ has set us free from the bondage of the law. “We have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.”

In the old way of service, we must serve because the law requires it. In the new way of service, we choose to serve because we want to. There is a difference between serving because you must and serving because you want to. In the old way service was restricted by the law, but in the new way, service is governed by the Holy Spirit.

The death of Jesus has freed us from the requirements of the law, so that you can serve others because you want to. The death of Jesus has freed you from the restrictions of the law, so that you can serve others by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Open your heart to the direction of the Holy Spirit. Ask God to show you how you can serve others today.
