40 Days of Service Day 11

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve you today?

Scripture: Luke 9:57-62

“Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.” He would have preferred to travel through Samaria, but He and His disciples ran into some resistance so He took the long way around. On His journey to Jerusalem He encountered three men who help us discover the true character of a servant of Christ.

The first man came to Jesus and asked to follow Him. Jesus did not reject the man, but informed him that being a servant of Jesus has no luxuries in this world, “The Son of Man has no place to lay His head.” Jesus approached the second man and said, “Follow me.” This man had other priorities and Jesus was placed on the waiting list. The third man approached Jesus and said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first…” Much like the second man, the third would-be servant of Jesus had other priorities in his life.

Jesus says, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the service in the kingdom of God.” Remember, “Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.” And He wants servants who place Him first over all things.
