40 Days of Service Day 28

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve others today?

Scripture: Matthew 20:1-6

A lot of people know the name Usain Bolt. He is the world record holder in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. He is the 3-time defending Olympic gold medalist in both events. But few people, even in his home country of the United States of America, know Travon Bromell. At the 2016 Olympic competition in Rio De Janeiro, Usain Bolt won his third consecutive 100-meter dash in 9.8 seconds, Travon Bromell finished last with a time of 10.06 seconds. Would it be fair for the Olympic committee to give Travon Bromell the Olympic gold medal? This past NFL season, the Cleveland Browns finished with the worst record in the league with a 1-15 record. The New England Patriots finished with a league best 14-2 record. The Patriots would go on to win the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. Would it be fair to give the Cleveland Browns the Lombardi Trophy?

The men who worked 11 hours felt like it was unfair that they were considered equal with those men who only worked 1 hour. This parable has a very powerable meaning. "The last will be first, and the first will be last." In the parable, all the servants are made equal. Serving others requires humility, because it is impossible to serve others, when we feel we are better than they are.
