40 Days of Service Day 8: God vs. Money

Morning Prayer: Lord, how can I serve you today?

Scripture: Matthew 6:19-24

This little section in the Sermon on the mount is titled Treasure in heaven. It begins with the words, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth.” And ends with the words, “You cannot serve both God and money.” Somehow money plays an important role in our relationship with God. Money is something that everybody wants more of. The things that people are willing to do to get more money are countless. Some people will work extra time and extra jobs to get the more money. Some people will gamble in hopes of getting more money. Others will invest their money hoping for a good return. Some people resort to stealing to get a few extra dollars.

The real question we should be asking ourselves, is “what are we willing to do to get more of God?” Are we willing to put in extra time reading our bible or praying to get more of God? Are we willing to spend more time in church to get more of God? Are we willing to invest our lives into the lives of others to get more of God? Money is limited, but God is unlimited. You can have as much of God as you are willing to receive.
